Fifty years ago in October the four thousand soldiers of Brigade 76 flew from Colorado Springs to Frankfurt. We climbed into fully combat loaded tanks with 63 live cannon rounds and drove to the East-West border at Fulda.
Tensions with the Soviet Union led the US to send more troops to West Germany and show the Soviet Union our commitment to NATO and Europe. Just 15 years later, against all expectations, the Soviet Union collapsed. Of the four wars I served in or during, the Cold War is the only win.
Which makes Trump's love of Putin that much more horrible. He betrays our allies, Ukraine most of all, and support a truly, deeply genocidal war to erase Ukraine. Glory to Ukraine.
