USA Today--Today

The cover article on today's edition of USA Today was about troops killing time and what they do to fill the hours. One of the people quoted at length in the article was me. The reporter talked about the two book groups I lead and even provided links to CS Lewis, Dante and Virgil. Here's the article. Meredith will be calling me an ink slut again--but somebody has to do it.

  1. Holy Crap, Gussman. Ink slut doesn't even come close, nor does ink call girl. Clearly, you're an Ink Madame.

  4. Sgt. Gussman,

I enjoyed reading the story about you and how you started a book club in Iraq. I'm an author with a book being considered by Penguin Group for publication. I would love to have you and your book club members read it and give my feedback; particularly since I am continuing to polish it for possible publication. If you are interested please email me at r.matt37@yahoo.com.

  5. Book clubs are terrific ideas. Not only do they pass the time, but also expand the minds (and the hearts) of the readers. I offer such an expansion - what I bill as a "woman's adventure" (although men have read it and have been captivated by it). It has a touch of romance and quite a bit of philosophy as well as adventure and suspense. The book is titled "All That I Am" and is a fictional story that takes place in two fictional countries, "Diandia" and "Tritania" which have been at war for 18 years over possessing a unique metal/ore (used primarily for weaponry and defense). Read more about it (the back cover text, a "sneak preview", reviews, and author's bio) at the author's web site: www.ronniecarroll.com

  6. Meredith--thanks (I think).
    Dennis, Jean, Susan--thanks very much.
Randy and Ronnie--Thanks for the suggestion. We have three months to go and several people: Ginny Bates, Sarah Reisert, Lt. West's Dad, Brigitte Van Tiggelen and others have sent books so we have the next book for each group. When they are finished, I will be on the airplane home. And since it really is a Dead Poets Society--Dante and Virgil, you would not want to qualify for consideration.
